About Moffat
The small town of Moffat developed as a centre for sheep farming. The famous Moffat Ram Statue still stands in the town centre.
The town developed as a Spa in Victorian times and rapidly gained popularity as a tourist centre, which continues to today. The Well and the Bath House now the Town Hall still exist.
The small local museum gives an excellent insight into Moffat's earlier life.
Local shops still reflect Moffat's Woollen Heritage, though modern times have brought a wide range of excellent specialist outlets including books, antiques, pottery and high quality gifts.
An excellent centre for bird watching, geology, walking, sailing, fishing, golf, pony-trekking etc.
Former residents of Moffat were Lord Dowding - the architect of The Battle of Britain, Robert McAdam - the pioneer of Tarmacadam.
